Background to the Southern Agricultural Region (SAR)
The land area of the SAR stretches from the Shire of Esperance in the east to the Shire of Denmark in the west. The northern extent includes the southern part of the Shire of Wagin. The region covers around 9.6 million ha (about 4 per cent of WA land area) with over 4 million ha of farmland. The Southern Agricultural Region has a population of over 70 000 people (or 3.5 per cent of WA’s population) mainly centred in Albany and Esperance. More information...
