Cactus Month is an annual event that takes place during the month of November.

This community awareness program aims to focus attention on the serious threat posed by weedy cactus to agriculture, the environment and recreational land uses.

It also provides an opportunity to join in the search for damaging cactus, take part in cactus control activities, and report the presence of cactus to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

Official launch on 1 November

Cactus month will be launched at the cactus information and demonstration forum, to be held in Perth.

This forum will include presentations on identifying different cactus species and understanding the impacts of cacti infestations. There will be a live cactus display, and after lunch demonstrations of best control options at a location in Swan View.

A new national best practice manual for Opuntioid cacti will also be launched at the forum.

Location: West Swan Hall, corner of West Swan Road and Henley Street, Henley Brook, Perth. 

Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Cactus Month provides an opportunity for you to:

  • Educate yourself on which cactus plants are declared. Declared cactus pose a serious threat to both agricultural production and the environment.
  • Report any suspected sightings of declared cactus to DPIRD.
  • Take part in Cactus Month events, including workshops and community control activities.
  • Use your new knowledge to control any declared cactus on your property.
