The Crop Science and Grain Production team provide industry with the information and tools to optimise management of major crop types and varieties for yield and quality in the context of seasonal and farm business conditions.

Crop Science and Grain Production team staff fall into 3 streams:

  • Wheat - 10 staff based at Geraldton, Merredin, Katanning, and Esperance     
  • Barley and oats – 9 staff based at Northam and South Perth
  • Broadleaf Crops – 10 staff based at Esperance, Northam, Katanning, Nash St, and Geraldton

Crop Science and Grain Production Research Priorities

  • Provide contextual variety advice
  • Understanding environmental drivers of crop performance in WA context
  • Understanding comparative physiology of cereals as a guide to managing for specific environments
  • Optimal development patterns for WA environments in wheat and barley
  • Crop agronomy for early planting: Wheat, Barley, Canola

Priority Projects
