My role in the department
Kristen is a research scientist with 23 years' experience working in perennial horticulture.
Kristen currently leads the Australian National Apple Breeding Program (ANABP). Her role requires the management of the breeding program including six staff. The program seeks to breed unique apple varieties that are preferred by consumers; can be stored for long periods of time; are suited to the Australian climate; and contribute to the development of the Australian apple industry. Kristen’s current research focuses on the long term storability of new apple varieties and elucidating consumer sensory preference of new apple selections.
My background
During her PhD, Kristen researched grape and wine development, investigating the effect of smoke exposure to grapes and the creation of smoke taint in wine.
