The More Sheep Initiative has launched the roll out of a new ‘tool box’ of information to assist farmers increase lambing percentages and improve ewe management skills.

The first display box of these free ‘tools’ was recently made available at Landmark Albany and can soon be found at selected More Sheep retail partner outlets.

Department of Agriculture and Food livestock industries director Kevin Chennell said the display box represented a decade of research into sheep production, predominantly based on the Lifetime Ewe Management training program.

“The display box contains a range of booklets on a variety of critical topics for sheep producers including a ewe management handbook, a lambing planner, feed on offer, feed budgeting, condition scoring and a flystrike chemical planner,” Dr Chennell said.

“They were produced with the support of Australian Wool Innovation. The box also contains a copy of a comprehensive publication co-developed by the department and the Sheep CRC, Sheep – the simple guide to making more money with less work, a valuable asset for all sheep producers.”

The eye-catching display boxes have proven popular with producers when trialled at recent field days.

Sheep Industry Leadership Council chair Rob Egerton-Warburton said the display boxes would be available through More Sheep Initiative partners Primaries, Elders and CRT in coming months.

“Industry support is critical to the success of More Sheep and placing of display boxes in outlets is a tangible way our retail partners are doing that,” Mr Egerton-Warburton said.

“Our partners are literally putting vital information in the hands of producers to ensure the sustainability of our industry for us all.

“Stock agency staff, such as Landmark, have been participating in Lifetime Ewe Management professional development days in recent months and will have a good understanding of the value of these resources for their clients.”
