The Australian Federal Government has committed to phasing out live sheep exports from Australia by sea. The Federal Government has confirmed that the phase-out will not take place during this current term of the Australian Parliament.

The phase-out does not apply to other livestock export industries, such as live cattle exports, nor does it apply to live sheep exports by air.

Following the announcement of the phase-out, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) conducted research on the likely impacts of the decision on Western Australia on behalf of the WA Government.

This submission summarises the key outcomes from this research.
