Trial results

The yield performance of the red flesh variety considerably exceeded that of the white flesh variety in 2013.

Mature fruit production for the red variety commenced on 5 February and continued through to 30 August 2013. Two sections of rows of the red variety were in production in 2013 (individual plants spaced at 1 metre intervals in the row).

Sixteen red flesh fruiting plants were present in one row, yielding 4.56kg of mature fruit per plant and 23 red flesh plants were present in a second section of row, yielding 4.15kg of mature fruit per plant.

The 10 white flesh fruiting plants in the trial individually produced 0.67kg of mature fruit per plant in 2013, predominantly in April. (This variety is understood to require a substantially longer period of establishment before full cropping potential is realised. The 2014 yield record will improve insight.)

The July-picked red flesh fruit represented 13.2% of the total crop of reds in 2013. Fruit skin on 73% of the July fruit was split to an extent (whereas only 4.8% of the June picked fruit was split).
